Donald J. Trump’s Veterans Plan

Veterans Administration Reforms That Will Make America Great Again

The Goals Of Donald J. Trump’s Veterans Plan

The current state of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is absolutely unacceptable. Over 300,000 veterans died waiting for care. Corruption and incompetence were excused. Politicians in Washington have done too little too slowly to fix it. This situation can never happen again, and when Donald J. Trump is president, it will be fixed – fast.

The guiding principle of the Trump plan is ensuring veterans have convenient access to the best quality care. To further this principle, the Trump plan will decrease wait times, improve healthcare outcomes, and facilitate a seamless transition from service into civilian life.

The Trump Plan Will:

  1. Ensure our veterans get the care they need wherever and whenever they need it. No more long drives. No more waiting for backlogs. No more excessive red tape. Just the care and support they earned with their service to our country.
  2. Support the whole veteran, not just their physical health care, but also by addressing their invisible wounds, investing in our service members’ post-active duty success, transforming the VA to meet the needs of 21st century service members, and better meeting the needs of our female veterans.
  3. Make the VA great again by firing the corrupt and incompetent VA executives who let our veterans down, by modernizing the VA, and by empowering the doctors and nurses to ensure our veterans receive the best care available in a timely manner.

The Trump Plan Gives Veterans The Freedom To Choose And Forces The VA To Compete For Their Dollars

Politicians in Washington have tried to fix the VA by holding hearings and blindly throwing money at the problem. None of it has worked. In fact, wait times were 50% higher this summer than they were a year ago. That’s because the VA lacks the right leadership and management. It’s time we stop trusting Washington politicians to fix the problems and empower our veterans to vote with their feet.

Under a Trump Administration, all veterans eligible for VA health care can bring their veteran’s ID card to any doctor or care facility that accepts Medicare to get the care they need immediately. Our veterans have earned the freedom to choose better or more convenient care from the doctor and facility of their choice. The power to choose will stop the wait time backlogs and force the VA to improve and compete if the department wants to keep receiving veterans’ healthcare dollars. The VA will become more responsive to veterans, develop more efficient systems, and improve the quality of care because it will have no other choice.

The Trump Plan Treats The Whole Veteran

We must care for the whole veteran, not just their physical health. We must recognize that today’s veterans have very different needs than those of the Greatest Generation.

The Trump Plan Will:

  1. Increase funding for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), traumatic brain injury and suicide prevention services to address our veterans’ invisible wounds. Service members are five times more likely to develop depression than civilians. They are almost fifteen times more likely to develop PTSD than civilians. This funding will help provide more and better counseling and care. More funding will also support research on best practices and state of the art treatments to keep our veterans alive, healthy and whole. With these steps, the Trump plan will help the veteran community put the unnecessary stigma surrounding mental health behind them and instead encourage acceptance and treatment in our greater society.
  2. Increase funding for job training and placement services (including incentives for companies hiring veterans), educational support and business loans. All Americans agree that we must do everything we can to help put our service men and women on a path to success as they leave active duty by collaborating with the many successful non-profit organizations that are already helping. Service members have learned valuable skills in the military but many need help understanding how to apply those skills in civilian life. Others know how to apply those skills but need help connecting with good jobs to support their families. Still others have an entrepreneurial spirit and are ready to start creating jobs and growing the economy. The Trump plan will strengthen existing programs or replace them with more effective ones to address these needs and to get our veterans working.
  3. Transform the VA to meet the needs of 21st century service members. Today’s veterans have very different needs than those of the generations that came before them. The VA must adapt to meet the needs of this generation of younger, more diverse veterans. The Trump plan will expand VA services for female veterans and ensure the VA is providing the right support for this new generation of veterans.
  4. Better support our women veterans. The fact that many VA hospitals don’t permanently staff OBGYN doctors shows an utter lack of respect for the growing number female veterans. Under the Trump plan, every VA hospital in the country will be fully equipped with OBGYN and other women’s health services. In addition, women veterans can always choose a different OBGYN in their community using their veteran’s ID card.

The Trump Plan Will Make The VA Great Again

The VA health care program is a disaster. Some candidates want to get rid of it, but our veterans need the VA to be there for them and their families. That’s why the Trump plan will:

  1. Fire the corrupt and incompetent VA executives that let our veterans down. Under a Trump Administration, there will be no job security for VA executives that enabled or overlooked corruption and incompetence. They’re fired. New leadership will focus the VA staff on delivering timely, top quality care and other services to our nation’s veterans. Under a Trump Administration, exposing and addressing the VA’s inefficiencies and shortcomings will be rewarded, not punished.
  2. End waste, fraud and abuse at the VA. The Trump plan will ensure the VA is spending its dollars wisely to provide the greatest impact for veterans and hold administrators accountable for irresponsible spending and abuse. The days of $6.3 million for statues and fountains at VA facilities and $300,000 for a manager to move 140 miles are over. The Trump plan will clean up the VA’s finances so the current VA budget provides more and better care than it does now.
  3. Modernize the VA. A VA with 20th century technology cannot serve 21st century service members and their needs. The VA has been promising to modernize for years without real results. The Trump plan will make it happen by accelerating and expanding investments in state of the art technology to deliver best-in-class care quickly and effectively. All veterans should be able to conveniently schedule appointments, communicate with their doctors, and view accurate wait times with the push of a button.
  4. Empower the caregivers to ensure our veterans receive quality care quickly. Caregivers should be able to easily streamline treatment plans across departments and utilize telehealth tools to better serve their patients. As we have seen from the private sector, the potential for new, innovative technology is endless. Abandoning the wasteful and archaic mindset of the public sector will give way to tremendously effective veteran healthcare.
  5. Hire more veterans to care for veterans. The more veterans we have working at the VA, the better the VA will be. They understand the unique challenges facing their community. To increase the number of veterans hired by the VA, this plan will add an additional 5 points to the qualifying scores of veterans applying for VA jobs.
  6. Embed satellite VA clinics in rural and other underserved areas. The Trump Administration will embed satellite VA clinics within hospitals and other care facilities in rural and other underserved areas. This step will ensure veterans have easy access to care and local hospitals and care facilities can handle the influx of patients without backlogs while tapping the specialized knowledge of VA health specialists.

RNC Cans NBC After Levin Calls For Priebus Firing

Before the media circus – masquerading as a GOP Debate on CNBC – even happened, CR Editor-in-Chief Mark Levin warned it would be a train-wreck. After he was proven right, Levin called for Reince Priebus, chairman of the Republican National Committee to be fired.

That message was heard loud and clear.

Today, Reince announced that the RNC was suspending their partnership with NBC for the upcoming debate on that network in February.

Levin railed on Reince and the GOP Establishment on his radio show the day after the debate:

5 Headlines: Media Consensus Is That CNBC Was GOP Debate’s ‘Biggest Loser’

The pundit world is still trying to decide which of the 10 Republican candidates for president won the third Republican debate of the 2016 race.

But it didn’t take long for there to be consensus on one thing: CNBC was the night’s “biggest loser.”

On multiple occasions, the moderators were booed for their pointed questions. And in one of the most memorable moments of the night, Sen. Ted Cruz ignored a question from moderator Carl Quintanilla and launched into a speech decrying the bias of CNBC and the mainstream media.

“Nobody watching at home believes that any of the moderators has any intention of voting in a Republican primary,” Cruz said.

With that, here are five headlines and excerpts that tell story:

1. “The biggest loser? The media” (Boston Globe): Writing about the Cruz-Quintanilla confrontation Jeff Jacoby writes:

“It was brutal takedown, and CNBC’s smarmy moderators had it coming. Cruz is far from the first conservative to rail against liberal media bias, but he did it about as effectively as it can be done in 30 seconds. The clip of that moment will go viral. It may or may not give a boost to Cruz’s presidential hopes, but it will certainly reinforce the public’s sense that the mainstream media isn’t trustworthy.”

2. “CNBC Was the Biggest Loser of Its Own Debate” (Slate):

“The main moderators—John Harwood, Becky Quick, and Carl Quintinilla—appeared to be in a different time zone from Jim Cramer and Rick Santelli, who pitched in with a few questions. Although come to think of it, Quintanilla may have been in a different zone from everyone. Were there tough questions? Sure. In fact, there were more than a few. There were hard queries about H-1B visas, and the candidates’ tax plans. Quintanilla even managed to push Ben Carson on his involvement with Mannatech, the shady multilevel company whose vitamins and other supplements it allowed sales reps to claim cured autism and cancer.

“But mostly CNBC’s debate was mess—and to regular CNBC viewers, a familiar one. How bad was it? Straight-ahead moderators John Harwood and Becky Quick seemed to be broadcasting from Planet Face the Nation, lobbing serious policy questions. Meanwhile, the more flamboyant Cramer and Santelli practically competed for overacting honors.”

3. “The Big Loser: CNBC” (The Weekly Standard):

“The CNBC panelists seemed oblivious to how they came across and how eager they appeared to embarrass the candidates, often on trivial matters. Marco Rubio’s cashing in a small retirement fund and paying a fine for doing so – that was their idea of an important issue.

“It backfired. Ted Cruz, then Rubio, then Chris Christie rebelled against the line of questioning. Trump said the questions were ‘nasty and ridiculous.’ Cruz and Rubio noted the Democratic candidates got far more softball questions at their debate. (CNBC wasn’t involved in that event.) ‘Democrats have the ultimate super PAC,’ Rubio said. ‘It’s called the mainstream media.'”

4. “Moderators lose control at third GOP debate” (Politico):

“The debate had barely wrapped up when Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus marched into the spin room and blasted the network. In a statement sent out soon after, Priebus said he was disappointed in the network moderators.

“‘Our diverse field of talented and exceptionally qualified candidates did their best to share ideas for how to reinvigorate the economy and put Americans back to work despite deeply unfortunate questioning from CNBC,’ Priebus said. ‘One of the great things about our party is that we are able to have a dynamic exchange about which solutions will secure a prosperous future, and I will fight to ensure future debates allow for a more robust exchange. CNBC should be ashamed of how this debate was handled.’

“CNBC spokesman Brian Steel defended the moderators.

“‘People who want to be President of the United States should be able to answer tough questions,’ Steel said in an email.”

5. “The 5 big confrontations between CNBC moderators and GOP candidates” (Washington Post): The Post framed a collection of confrontations by writing:

“Debate watchers on social media rightly criticized CNBC’s moderators for some of their questions and for not being able to rein in candidates when they went out of bounds, either on time or substance. But, at times, the 2016 hopefuls on stage seemed to pounce on the moderators with little reason or disputed some facts that weren’t exactly in their favor.

The arguments were often left unsolved as the moderators tried their best to, well, moderate and keep the debate moving on.”

“Hilarious hearing talk show hosts today tell us John Harwood is awful and that the media should be removed from the debate process. I have pushed for the latter for months on my show. Even before the Fox debate. They said nothing. It is about time the others in talk radio have figured it out. And only now do they condemn the RNC. Again, there should be NO MEDIA MODERATORS IN GOP DEBATES. But I will address this further on my show later today. Hope you’ll join me.”

Rush Limbaugh: Gutierrez Lies About Trump on House Floor, Rails Against SNL Appearance

RUSH: Trump is getting it from all sides now as Luis Gutierrez, our old buddy from Illinois, a Democrat member of Congress that was desperately hoping we’d have amnesty by now. He had already set up procedures for it; Obama let him down.  But he’s really been paving the way for it, and he’s really, really, really upset that Saturday Night Live is gonna host Trump.

Luis Gutierrez is leading an effort to get Saturday Night Live to rescind their invitation.  He went to the floor of the House of Representatives to rail against Trump appearing on Saturday Night Live.

GUTIERREZ:  It starts every Q&A at every high school I visit.  The questions are about Donald Trump.  “Is he gonna be our next president?  Is it true that he wants to revoke our citizenship, deport us to the countries our parents came from?  Is it true he wants to round us up, Mr. Gutierrez, and deport us all?”  When they hear that Trump is hosting Saturday Night Live — not just being a guest, but actually hosting — even after saying Mexicans are mostly rapists, criminals, and drug dealers, they get the impression that calling whole groups of people rapists, criminals, and drug dealers — based on their ethnicity or national origin — is basically okay with us in America.

RUSH:  Luis, are you actually trying to tell us that people are running around talking about Trump hosting Saturday Night Live being worried about it, that if he were just guesting it’d be okay, but he’s hosting, and that has ’em really upset?  Luis, this is your deal.  This is typical of what these people do. (imitating Luis) “Everywhere I go, every high school I go to everybody’s asking me, ‘Luis, why, Luis, why is Trump saying… why?'”  Nobody’s asking Luis about it.  They have their own opinions already.

Luis is just putting his thoughts in other people’s mouths, minds, and trying to expand the universe of people that supposedly think the way he does.  I think, Luis, you gotta be very careful.  Your comments here that you just attributed to Trump are what put him at the top of the heap on day one.  You’re just reminding people why they supported Trump at the outset, if you keep talking this way.  He wasn’t through.  We have one more bite, again, this on the floor of the House just this morning.

GUTIERREZ:  When I asked these young Americans whether they plan to get registered to vote, every hand goes up in the classroom.  Donald Trump is spurring youth voter mobilization like I’ve never seen before.  But let’s be honest.  Do we really want to motivate civic participation through fear of deportation, racial profiling, and families being broken up?

RUSH:  Stop the tape.  Hell, yes, you do!  That’s exactly what you want.  By all rights, Luis, you should be demanding that Trump not be thrown off Saturday Night Live. If all of these benefits are accruing to the Democrat Party, if all these people tell you they can’t wait to register, they can’t wait to vote, Luis, you really care why they want to register?  And if they’re registering out of fear of deportation or racial profiling or families being broken up, you worry that they’re — don’t try to sell us this bill of goods, Luis.  You’ll take it however you can get it, and you’ll applaud Trump for doing it.

GUTIERREZ:  American teenagers growing up to distrust their government.  Trump wants to take us back to the good old days of race relations, which apparently means the 1950s, when President Eisenhower evicted millions of immigrants and US citizens from the United States.

RUSH:  Okay, Luis.  Ladies and gentlemen, I have some shocking immigration news for you here.  If you listen to people like Luis Gutierrez, then you would believe that we deport everything, that we want to deport everybody, that we’re going to deport everybody, and that only guardians of these poor immigrants like Luis Gutierrez can save them.  The fact of the matter is the country is being overrun as we speak.  Breitbart News: “At current immigration levels, the United States will add approximately the population of Los Angeles every three years within the next ten years,” coming decade.  “This according to Republican staff on the Senate –” this is Jeff Sessions’ committee.

At current legal immigration levels, the US will add approximately the population of LA every three years.  The question, are they assimilating?  Or are they Balkanizing?  Are they assimilating to the American culture, becoming part of the United States of America, or are they just relocating their lives here?  According to the Sessions committee, the Census Bureau projects the annual net immigration, annual, every year, net immigration 1.24 million and rising.  Last year the number was 1.75 million legal immigrants.  That’s in one year.

Now, bear in mind we’re talking about legal immigration here.  Who knows how illegal aliens came last year, how many and how they got here.  And good luck trying to find that out from government statistics.  Between 2015 and 2017, nearly four million net immigrants will enter the US.  Another 3.85 million on net will be added from 2018 to 2020. And from 2021 to 2023 an additional 3.85.

We’re talking 12 million additional immigrants through the year 2023, legal immigration.  And Luis Gutierrez is running around the high schools telling them all that they’re gonna be deported and their families are gonna be broken up.  It’s just the exact opposite.  The total, exact opposite.  And then there’s this.  The Department of Homeland Security is expanding a program that awards businesses bonuses when they hire alien college graduates over native born graduates.

RUSH:  So Luis Gutierrez can go to the floor of the House and lie about what Donald Trump said.  Yes, he can.  Harry Reid can go to the floor of the Senate and lie about what I said.  And these UN climate people can go on the news and issue press releases and lie to people about what causes cancer.  They can do great harm to businesses, and there’s nothing anybody can do?  It’s just amazing.  It’s not amazing.  It’s become standard operating procedure.  It’s par for the course.

RUSH:  Okay, so we are on schedule to import an additional 12 million people legally between now and 2023, and there’s Luis Gutierrez on the floor of the House lying about Donald Trump.  Donald Trump has not said he wants to revoke anybody’s citizenship.  Donald Trump’s not gone anywhere near there. It’s just like Harry Reid went to the floor of the Senate to lie about me, just like these United Nations people passing themselves off as “nutrition scientists” telling you that bacon and processed meats do, in fact, cause cancer.  It’s an out-and-out lie!

It cannot be established, it cannot be proven with anecdotal evidence.  I have a friend who’s 84 whose bacon and eggs and steak and potatoes every day of his life.  And he’s healthy as he can be, and I’m sure you know people like this, too.  This is actionable stuff!  This is genuinely… Think of the people in the beef industry.  They’re not bad people, but they’re being portrayed as enemies of the planet by these jerks at the United Nations, these left-wing Algore Jrs. that are actually out trying to advance a political agenda has nothing to do with climate science.

Twelve million legal immigrants in this country by 2023 at about three million, what is it every three years.  It’s a census number. And then there’s this.  “The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is expanding a program that awards businesses bonuses when they hire alien college graduates over native-born graduates, according to an analysis by the Center for Immigration Studies. The optional practical training program (OPT) awards alien college graduates a work permit to stay in the United States for 12 months.”

So where did this come from? “The new changes [that the government, the Department of Homeland Security] is proposing as part of President Obama’s executive action on immigration last November extends the program further to allow these students to stay in the United States for an additional 24 months,” up to a total of three years. They normally to get to stay for 17 months. “Because DHS defines a recent college graduate as a student, employees and workers can escape paying payroll taxes.

“This means that businesses can receive a bonus of $12,000 to hire an alien college graduate over a native-born one.” Because they are recent college graduates, and because of the way the Department of Homeland Security defines them, they don’t have to pay payroll taxes.  They’re here temporarily.  Well, that’s a bonus!  When you don’t have to pay $12,000 per employee.  We’re not talking a differentiation in salary. When businesses do not have to pay payroll taxes for these alien graduates, that’s the incentive to hire them.

So Luis Gutierrez is just full of it.

If Trump wants to get back on top, if indeed he’s fallen from his perch, stories like this are made to order for him, because immigration is what put him at the top anyway.  Immigration, and his unyielding position on it, is what has resonated with a cross section of Americans, not just conservatives and not just Republicans, but Democrats, moderates, liberals, you name it.  Trump gets support from the whole gamut.  And then you couple this with what we see happening in Europe.  Stop and think of this.

I told you the story yesterday of how one little hamlet in Germany with a population of 60,000 that has now been overrun by 1,500 migrant refugees who are being housed in some unused building. I guess it’s rather large building.  Therefore, those 1500 outnumber the 60 who live there.  Guess who runs that town or who’s going to?  But beyond that, you can find stories on the Internet featuring overhead pictures of single-file lines of men — young men, able-bodied men — standing in line as far as the eye can see in wind, in rain, in cold.

These are people from desert climes standing in rain in the fall in places like Germany, standing in line to be allowed in, and when it all started, you know, Angela Merkel was all happy about it because they’ve got a birthrate replacement level problem, which is a labor problem.  If they’re not producing enough native Germans to maintain their economy, she needs outside people. She’s welcoming 500,000 to 800,000 a year.  Now they’re overrunning Europe, folks.  They’re dangerously close to losing Europe.

And now they’re having crisis emergency meetings over what to do about it.  But the barn door is open.  And this is a purposeful migration.  It has a political objective to it.  And it is essentially to conquer Europe.  And the same objective, I’m sure, exists for this country.  It’s a little tougher to walk here unless you’re coming from the Southern or Northern Hemispheres.  That’s why the southern border is so vulnerable.

RUSH:  Let me put this Department of Homeland Security directive in perspective for you.  I want to make sure you understand this.  I’ll give you a circumstance.  On the one hand an illegal college graduate here on a temporary visa or whatever, not yet a citizen.  On the other hand, your recently graduated legal citizen, son, daughter, niece, nephew, what have you, they’re vying for the same job at the same business.

The business owner knows because of the most recent Obama executive order that if he hires the recent graduate illegal, he doesn’t have to pay payroll taxes and a number of other payroll deductions that total $12,000 a year.  On the one hand, illegal graduate here temporarily, on the other hand your son or daughter.  Same job, same company.  To hire the illegal costs him $12,000 less than hire your son or daughter.  In some businesses, 12,000 bucks could be significant annual profit, could be big money.

The bottom line’s this.  You pay your taxes. You went into debt to pay tuition. You want the best for your son or daughter. You believed a college education opens the doors necessary to your kid to succeed. Your kid could have a much higher GPA.  Your kid could interview far superior to the illegal graduate and doesn’t still have a prayer getting the gig because the illegal, the temporary noncitizen graduate costs $12,000 less to hire.

How do you compete with that?  You can’t have a resume that’s gonna overcome, that cost $12,000 less.  You’re not gonna have a skill set, recent college graduate, that will overcome $12,000 cheaper hire.  You can’t blow the doors down in an interview so much that overcome that 12,000 bucks.  This is another way that immigration, thanks to policy via executive order from Barack Obama, aids illegal immigrants over natives.  And people who oppose this are called nativists and xenophobes.  And this is all done under the premise of fairness, by the way, as the left defines it.

RUSH:  Remember last week I mentioned that there are six and a half million more students with bachelor’s degrees today than jobs available for them?  Now add this DHS preference for illegal alien graduates to the mix and see where we are.

The Boehner-Obama Budget Deal Explained in One Chart

Washington is addicted to spending.

The most recent embodiment of this fact is the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2015. The deal, agreed to by House Speaker John Boehner and President Barack Obama, increases spending (including debt service and offsets) by $85 billion over the next three years. Nearly half of those offsets (including new revenues) are not realized until 2025—the last year of the budget window.

Between this Boehner-Obama deal and the Ryan-Murray spending agreement of 2013 (the last time Congress revisited the discretionary spending caps), Congress has increased spending by a total of $143 billion before 2021 (the period covered by the Budget Control Act) paid for with $98 billion in savings not realized until after 2021.

As we know from past experience, these “savings” sometimes never materialize because they’re so far into the future.

Rather than taking meaningful steps to address the growing debt, the Boehner-Obama deal is a colossal step in the opposite direction. This deal does nothing to reduce the size or scope of government over any period of time.

Poll: Trump leads Carson by 14 points nationwide

Donald Trump is well ahead of the pack heading into Wednesday night’s third Republican presidential debate, according to a new poll.

Trump has a 14-point lead over his nearest competitor before the contest in Boulder, Colo., according to a One America News Network survey.

Pollsters found support for the real estate mogul at 35.6 percent, compared with 21.7 percent for retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson. Sen. Marco Rubio (Fla.) trails the pair, with 10.7 percent.
“It’s all Trump going into the third debate,” One America CEO Robert Herring Sr. said in a statement Tuesday morning.

“Mr. Trump’s continued top national ranking will also make him the candidate to target Wednesday night,” he added.

Former Gov. Jeb Bush (Fla.) ranks fourth in the new poll, with 7.6 percent. Sen. Ted Cruz (Texas) and former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina follow, with 5.9 percent to her 5.7 percent, respectively.

The poll questioned 906 registered Republicans and has a 3-point margin of error.

In recent weeks, Carson has made significant in-roads on Trump’s dominance in the race. A CBS News/New York Times poll also released Tuesday shows Carson edging out the outspoken billionaire for first place nationwide.

Carson leads Trump, 26 percent to his 22 percent, in to that survey. Carson recently surged past Trump to take the lead in the early-voting state of Iowa.

Trump has responded by gradually turning up the heat against Carson despite their past warmth on the campaign trail.

“Some of these polls coming out, I don’t quite get it,” he said Tuesday of Carson’s appeal on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”
